I found heaven on February 12, 2002 when I walked into a restorative workshop with Nesta Falladown and Burt Peeters. Being new to yoga, I had no idea what to expect, but what I found was an intensely therapeutic relaxation experience. As a recovering Type A personality, this was a major revelation, and served as the impetus of my inquiry into this form of gentle yoga.
 
The work of Nesta Falladown, Sue McLelland, Burt Peeters, Mac Swackhammer, Davina Parkinson, Francois Raoult, Nischala Joy Devi, and BKS Iyengar have informed my teaching, with further insights from the Feldenkrais method through Marion Harris.
 
After 3 years of working with people in high-pain, high-stress, and life-limiting circumstances, I am grateful to share the practice of restorative yoga with those who want to reduce pain, quiet the mind, and experience peace.


Deborah Gemus instructs the following:
  • Restorative (Earth Room)
  • A gentle practice where the body is held and supported by bolsters, blankets, straps, the wall and blocks. These props help to stay in a pose for a longer period of time to aid in relaxation.

  • Gentle Yoga (Fire Room)
  • Learn yoga poses at a comfortable pace while taking care of the body. The gentle class includes some restorative poses for relaxation. Great for beginners or those looking to release tension and unwind.

  • Restorative (Fire Room - Reduced Heat)
  • A gentle practice where the body is held and supported by bolsters, blankets, straps, the wall and blocks. These props help to stay in a pose for a longer period of time to aid in relaxation.

  • Gentle Yoga (Earth Room)
  • Learn yoga poses at a comfortable pace while taking care of the body. The gentle class includes some restorative poses for relaxation. Great for beginners or those looking to release tension and unwind.

  • Foundations of Yoga
  • Never practiced yoga before? This 4 week workshop series is designed specifically for the absolute beginner or anyone wanting a step-by-step review of the basics! In just 4 short weeks, you will walk away with a strong foundation in the fundamentals of yoga, breathing, and alignment in yoga poses.
     
    We will meet once a week for 1.5 hours for 4 weeks.
     
    Upon completion you will have enough knowledge to be comfortable walking into drop-in Level 1 or Level 1-2 yoga classes.  You will also receive gifts to help you on your yoga journey!
     
    Fee: $80 + HST (community members receive 10% off)
